What is Astro and why should I use it?
Astro is a modern web framework designed for content-driven sites. Unlike React or Vue frameworks that ship a JavaScript runtime to every visitor, Astro sends pure HTML by default and only hydrates the interactive components — called islands. The result is dramatically faster page loads, better Core Web Vitals, and stronger SEO. We chose it for our own products and client builds because it delivers developer productivity without sacrificing performance.
How much does an Astro website cost?
Launch starts from £15,000: 5 bespoke pages, 3 blueprint templates. Growth from £24,000: 8 bespoke pages, 5 blueprint templates, 2 lead acquisition funnels. Scale from £49,000: 12 bespoke pages, 8 blueprint templates, custom integrations and APIs. Below £15,000 there is a fixed-scope validation build: a discovery workshop, one landing page, one funnel, Stripe and email automation.
What is islands architecture?
Islands architecture means your page is mostly static HTML, with only the interactive parts — a carousel, a form, a calculator — loaded as self-contained JavaScript components. The rest of the page ships no JavaScript at all. This is why Astro sites are so fast: the browser renders the content immediately, then progressively enhances the interactive pieces.
Is Astro good for SEO?
Astro is excellent for SEO. Because pages are pre-rendered to static HTML, search engines can crawl your content without executing JavaScript. The fast load times improve Core Web Vitals, which Google uses as a ranking signal. And because Astro ships so little JavaScript, your content is discoverable by AI agents and answer engines that need clean, semantic markup.
Can Astro handle e-commerce, memberships and gated content?
Yes. We build memberships, course platforms, client portals and checkout flows on Astro. The static foundation is wrapped with serverless edge functions on Cloudflare for authentication, payments and dynamic content. Astro's framework-agnostic islands mean you can use React, Vue or Vanilla JS for the interactive parts while keeping the rest of the site lightning fast.
Do you host Astro sites on Cloudflare?
Yes. Every Astro site we build is deployed to Cloudflare's edge network, which gives global CDN, DDoS protection, serverless functions and edge caching out of the box. See our Cloudflare services for the infrastructure layer, or our sector pages for the design and build.
How does Astro compare to Next.js, Webflow and WordPress?
Astro is faster than Next.js for content sites because it ships no JavaScript runtime by default. It is more flexible than Webflow because there is no platform lock-in or feature ceiling. And it is more maintainable than WordPress because there are no plugin updates, security patches or database dependencies. The trade-off: Astro is a developer framework, not a visual builder, so you need an engineering team to build and evolve it.
Will my marketing team be able to update the site without a developer?
On an Astro build, updates, new pages and campaigns come to us and the people who built your site make the changes. This is by design: Astro gives you full creative and technical freedom, which means the site is code, not a template. For teams that need self-management, we also build on Kajabi, where the platform is designed for non-technical users.
